A movement of Live Vintage Kaiso headed by Michael Germain
The Superior Vintage (Kaiso) Brigade is the brainchild of the late Andrew "Lord Superior" Marcano and has been active since 2006 under his leadership. They were a roving band of calypsonians which include Brother Valentino, Brother Mudada, Trinidad Rio and Poser among many others, with management from long time friend and business partner Ronnie Joseph.
They are musically powered by a band of vintage players including brass players. This musical ensemble is called the R.B.O. (REFLECTIONS BRASS ORCHESTRA). R.B.O. was managed for Lord Superior by Michael Germain. It was on Lord Superior's hospital bed that he bestowed the maintenance of the whole Brigade to Mr. Germain.
Today, the Brigade continues to keep Vintage Kaiso alive with its live brass orchestra. With performances carded locally and in Europe (and eventually the US), this is the one of the Caribbean’s most treasured vintage kaiso movements and their electrifying calypso brass band. Get ready to feel the rhythm, embrace the culture, and experience kaiso the way it was meant to be.
SOME OF OUR LEGENDARY BRIGADIERS
In 1946, Emrold Anthony Phillip came to Trinidad from Grenada (on a Carnival Monday) with his parents when he was five years old and ended up making his home here. He worked as a printer, electrician, and mechanic before settling down for a while as an apprentice tailor.
His love for singing calypso grew and made his first appearance at the Big Bamboo Tent on Park Street in Port of Spain in the early 1960s.
'Brother Valentino' as he is known worldwide has proven his worth as a riveting performer, expressing his political and social awareness through songs such as 'Life is a Stage', 'Stay up Zimbabwe' and 'Dis Place Nice'.
Bro Mudada (Allan Fortune) burst onto the entertainment scene with a calypso titled "Papers No Use".
He was the first runner up to Chalkdust that year, 1997, his very first time in the final. Since then he has made it to the National Calypso Final on a number of times .
Some of his hits include de North Stand ,the Mecca ,Radio Talk, Soca Symphony, Good Time Pioneers and Dem Judges and Everliving Calypso. He has dedicated his life to calypso performing in North America, the Caribbean and the Virgin Islands. Brother Mudada is a topline cast member of the Kaiso House Calypso Tent and is a Hummingbird Silver National Awardee for Music and Culture.
Daniel Brown, known as Trinidad Rio, was a bodybuilder turned calypsonian who grew up at the Belmont Orphanage.
This had a positive impact on his development and passion for music. He learned to play trumpet, French horn and joinery.
As his career blossomed, Brown constantly devoted his time and talents to people incarcerated in institutions like Youth Training Centre (YTC) and Carrera prisons. During Carnival, Brown was honoured by YTC–A Tribute To Rio. The young man sang his hits like Back To Basics, Travelling Man, No Drawers and Big Wood Man. Bare-backed and with bow-tie, they imitated his stage persona to the nines.
Trinidad Rio thanks God for music because without it he says he don't know where he would have been.
The live band powering the Superior Vintage Brigade, all managed by Musical Director and bassist Michael Germain. One of the Caribbean’s most dynamic and pulsating calypso brass bands, you are certain to see stalwarts like trumpeter Rellon Brown, keyboardist Patrick 'PJ' Johnson, saxophonist Michelle Henry, drummer Richard Joseph and guitarist Enrico Camejo.
